The Greater Cincinnati Chinese Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Lunar New Year Gala on from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Horseshoe Casino ballroom on Jan. 31. The chamber will celebrate the coming of the Year of the Horse with an auction, Asian cuisine and traditional performances. Also, former Toledo Mayor Michael P. Bell will speak on his story of bringing more than $10 million in Chinese investment to his city since 2011. The event will prove to be a grand display of Asian culture and tradition for the biggest holiday of the year in the Far East.

Attire is business or cocktail and the evening’s proceedings will go as such (subject to change):

  • 5:30 to 6:10 pm: Registration, Networking, Auction and Lion Dance Prelude
  • 6:15 to 8:00 pm: Dining on Asian Cuisine, Networking and Michael Bell Speech
  • 8:05 to 9:00 pm: Beijing Storytelling (Kuai ban shu), Guzheng (Chinese Harp) and Sounds of Joy (choir) performances

Lunar New Year Gala: Mayor Michael Bell to Share Chinese Story

Journalists have been following the work of the City of Toledo lately. They were particularly interested in the work of former Mayor Michael Bell. During his term he courted hundreds of Chinese investors, which so far has amounted in more than $10 million in investment. An elected official like Mr. Bell deserves to share his story. And he’ll be doing just that on Jan. 31 at the 2014 Lunar New Year Gala.

The 2014 Lunar New Year Gala

The Year of the Horse 2014 is fast approaching. Granted — now that it’s Dec. 17 — Christmas and New Year’s Day are even closer, but in about a month’s time, we will see the arrival of the Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year. While the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky might have other smaller, more intimate Lunar New Year celebrations , our event should prove to be the biggest Lunar New Year bash around.

An Introduction to the Chinese Chamber

The Chinese chamber promotes trade between our region and China, strengthening exports and creating jobs. We also work to increase visibility of Asian professionals in the community.

According to the International Trade Association, the Cincinnati metropolitan area exported $20 billion in 2012, ranking 16th in the nation. China was a major recipient.
